Friday PM Update:
A WINTER STORM WARNING has now been issued for much of Southern Illinois and SE Missouri with Winter Weather Advisories continuing elsewhere. Here is the latest map and forecast accumulations for the Local 6 area. Road will become slushy and slick by Saturday morning. Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution and don't forget to carry along a winter weather kit for your vehicle.




Friday Afternoon Update:
Snowfall totals have been adjusted a bit to reflect the slightly stronger storm system. Just like the last storm, highest totals are expected north of the Ohio River back into SE Missouri. Lighter accumulations are expected and winds will not become so hazardous. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for those in the second map below.

Thursday Night Update: Sitting here sifting through the newest model data and with snow still on the ground, colder surface temperatures may lead to some light icing on area roads first thing Friday morning. Light rain mixed with freezing drizzle looks to be a real possibility, more likely in the areas I have outlined on the map below:


This wintry mix should turn to all rain by late morning to noon. Colder air will then be drawn down from the north and change the rain over to sleet and snow by evening and overnight Friday into Saturday. Light accumulations are expects mainly over the areas with snow still on the ground. Here is latest snow accumulation map, ending Saturday morning.

This winter event will be way less significant compared to the winter storm that just swept through Christmas night. With that being said, even just a small amount of freezing drizzle can create black ice for morning commuters. Just take it slow and give yourself a little extra time to get to work to be on the safe side.

Round 3 on deck and wrap-up of snow depth thus far

Snow Depth as of December 30, 2012 with additional snow expected New Years Eve night. (Reports from viewers) It is becoming quite clear where the jet stream has set up for the start of winter. People in Southern Illinois and neighboring MO counties along the Mississippi River can barely keep the roads clear while everyone south of the Ohio River is wondering if we'll ever see snow this winter! :) New Year's Eve night is when we are expecting another (although light) snow event across the same areas where you see higher snow depths above. Updates on Upcoming Winter Weather Events

Sunday Morning Update: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of the WPSD Local 6 area with a handful of counties just reaching Winter Storm criteria. Here is the latest map. They are in effect until early Monday. Snowfall totals have not changed much from last nights posting and I really feel this will still just be a road impact for Monday morning. Here is the projected snowfall total map: Sorry, TN. Looks like another near miss on the snow for you. :( Saturday Night Update: A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the Paducah National Weather Service for most of the WPSD Local 6 area. Portions of NW TN and MO Bootheel have been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory all for winters weather on Sunday as colder air begins to arrive.   Rain will switch over to freezing rain, sleet, and snow during the day on Sunday eventually leading to accumulations in the watch/advisory areas.
