Sunday Morning Update:
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of the WPSD Local 6 area with a handful of counties just reaching Winter Storm criteria. Here is the latest map. They are in effect until early Monday.
Snowfall totals have not changed much from last nights posting and I really feel this will still just be a road impact for Monday morning. Here is the projected snowfall total map:
Saturday Night Update:
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the Paducah National Weather Service for most of the WPSD Local 6 area. Portions of NW TN and MO Bootheel have been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory all for winters weather on Sunday as colder air begins to arrive.
Rain will switch over to freezing rain, sleet, and snow during the day on Sunday eventually leading to accumulations in the watch/advisory areas. Initially any frozen precip will melt thanks to Saturday's mild temps and warmer pavement surfaces but then slick roads may result by Monday morning where untreated by road crews. Here is a look at the latest projected snow/sleet totals ending late Sunday night/Monday morning.
Saturday Morning Update:
Still appears that the best chance of accumulating snow will sit along the KY/TN border Sunday PM and overnight. The only impact this event should have on the aforementioned area is road condition Monday morning on untreated surfaces. Make plans to adjust your Monday morning routine in the event roads are slick in these areas.
Friday night update:
A couple of rounds of wintry weather are on the way bringing two very different events to the Local 6 area. I will be updating this blog over the next several days as we get closer the storms arrival. Here is a quick summary of what to look for this weekend and into the middle of next week. Be prepared and look for future updates here and on WPSD Local 6 this weekend!
Sunday Evening and Night |
After rain and maybe a few snowflakes wrap up Sunday morning, a colder system will bring a round of snow showers starting Sunday before sunset through Sunday night. While accumulations will be fairly light, this may still pose a threat to any untreated roadways Monday morning. Here is a look at the counties with a greater chance of seeing accumulating snow. This may cause a few school delays or closings especially along the TN/KY line back into the Bootheel of MO.
Tuesday Morning - Wednesday |
On deck is Early Tuesday Morning through Wednesday:
This storm system has been on the radar for a few days but has also been trending further north to allow much of the Local 6 area to be in the warm sector for a majority of the storm. The exception is Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri. There is a likely chance these areas will be at risk for an icing event. Areas along and north of the Ohio River should keep a close eye on the dividing line over the next couple of days. Up to a quarter inch, locally a third of an inch of ice will be possible along with snow. South of the dividing line, KY and TN, will see rain then eventually mix with a little sleet and snow as the storm exits the area. The finer details of this storm are subject to change since we are still 4 days away from its arrival.
Some of the hazards associated with the active weather headed our way are listed below:
